Denise has managed to successfully straddle the hard and soft sides of Human Resources and brings a wealth of knowledge as well as some ‘crazy’ ideas about how to make a workplace truly awesome.
With more than 20 years’ experience in Human Resources and Finance, Denise prides herself on her portability across a range of sectors and industries. Before joining Vocus Group, Australia’s 4th largest Telco, Denise worked in financial services, an NGO and the public sector. She also has had her own consultancy, HanlonHR.
Prior to moving into Human Resources, most of Denise’s earlier career was in finance-centric roles – where her commercial brain was honed. Her work experience is backed up by some smarts too – achieving her MBA in 2003 and Masters of Finance in 2009.
At Vocus, she oversaw Human Resources across Australia and New Zealand as well as Internal Communications. In only 2 years, Vocus experienced hyper-growth, growing from 220 employees to over 2000.
With initiatives such as ‘Clever Company No Muppets’, ‘Choose Your Own Adventure Performance’ and ‘Don't Put The Fat Guy On The Wing’, Denise continues to challenge traditional approaches to HR with a determined focus on approaching things in a way that gets the best out of people.
With a firm belief that everyone is brilliant at something, Denise continues to defy convention in motivating performance and unleashing talent.
